CHICAGO, May 13, 2009

The board of directors of the McCormick Foundation announced today the retirement of Chief Executive Officer David L. Grange, who will be leaving the Foundation on June 30 of this year. The Foundation board expects to name a successor for General Grange in the near future.

“Dave Grange has built an impressive legacy at the Foundation, just as he has in every aspect of his life and career,” said Dennis FitzSimons, chairman of the Foundation’s board of directors. “While we understand Dave’s decision to move closer to his extended family and his sons on the East Coast, we will miss both his leadership and his friendship. The board greatly appreciates what Dave has accomplished in his 10 years with the Foundation, and we wish him the very best in all of his new endeavors.”

Brig. Gen. Grange USA (Ret.) joined the McCormick Foundation in 1999 as executive vice president and chief operating officer, after serving 30 years in the U. S. Army. General Grange’s final position in the military was as Commanding General of the 1st Infantry Division, known as the “Big Red One.”

In 2005, Grange was appointed the Foundation’s president and chief executive officer. Since becoming CEO, he has spearheaded the opening of the McCormick Freedom Museum, overseen major expansion and improvements at Cantigny Park in Wheaton, Illinois, and led the development of a new Veterans Programs initiative for the Foundation, including Welcome Back Veterans, a partnership with Major League Baseball, and Operation Healing Freedom, a collaboration with private equity firms and the financial community.

“My 10 years with the McCormick Foundation have been among the most satisfying and rewarding of my life,” said General Grange. “The Foundation’s commitment to service and to building more active and engaged citizens reflects my own belief in the strength of our democracy and the power of people and communities. It has been a great privilege to be a part of the Foundation’s work and the legacy of Robert R. McCormick.”
