The McCormick Freedom Museum announces the addition of two experienced journalists, Tim McNulty as senior journalist and Jamie Loo as First Amendment beat reporter and researcher. The Museum has embarked on an expanded effort to promote the benefits of lifelong civic engagement among citizens of all ages, through original reporting, commentary and news aggregation.

“As the traditional media curtails coverage in the face of severe economic pressures, the Freedom Museum’s new reporting efforts will help fill a growing need,” said Shawn Healy, managing director, Freedom Museum. “Adding our own journalists in the field will allow us to provide first-hand unbiased information and reporting on First Amendment issues in our state and across the country.”

Since its inception, the Freedom Museum has been dedicated to helping citizens understand the need to protect their freedoms. The reporting initiative will bring additional focus to telling this relevant, urgent and compelling story.

“In joining the growing ranks of citizen journalists, we want to add a strong voice for freedom and active citizen engagement,” said David Hiller, president and CEO, McCormick Foundation. “Inspiring lifelong commitment to active citizenship is a central component of the McCormick Foundation’s mission.”

Loo and McNulty both have extensive backgrounds in reporting and journalism. McNulty, a veteran journalist with the Chicago Tribune, served as the public editor and was also the associate managing editor for foreign news, overseeing the newspaper’s foreign desk operations and its overseas correspondents. Loo was a city beat reporter for the South Bend Tribune, covering the mayor’s office and the Indiana General Assembly.

Loo’s responsibilities include original reporting on First Amendment issues and collecting news content for email dissemination, Web and blog postings. McNulty’s duties encompass writing op-ed pieces on freedom-related issues, augmenting the writing of a reporting team that includes internal First Amendment experts and moderating public programs sponsored by the Freedom Museum.

“The Freedom Museum is thrilled to bring on board two high-caliber veteran journalists with diverse experiences,” said Healy. “Jamie and Tim lend further credibility to our institution and expand the reach of our educational mission through their reporting and writing.”
