Citizenship

Our Citizenship program granted nearly $2.9 million to programs promoting youth civic engagement and volunteerism in the Chicago-area.
Mission

The Citizenship Program’s mission is to help develop a new generation of informed and actively engaged citizens and support opportunities for youth to participate in our democratic process.

A veteran of World War I and editor of one of our nation's largest newspapers, Col. Robert R. McCormick was a patriotic American and devoted Chicagoan. He understood the importance of civic responsibility and lived his life accordingly. The Foundation’s Citizenship Program seeks to honor and perpetuate McCormick’s dedication to responsible citizenship by fostering a long-term dedication to civic engagement among young people.

The Citizenship Program funds initiatives for high school and college age youth (ages 15 to 25) in the Chicago area with a focus on civic education, service and civic leadership.
